BUT MY ILL FATE PUSHED ME ON NOW WITH AN OBSTINACY THAT NOTHING COULD RESIST; AND THOUGH I HAD SEVERAL TIMES LOUD CALLS FROM MY REASON AND MY MORE COMPOSED JUDGMENT TO GO HOME, YET I HAD NO POWER TO DO IT. I HAIL NO REMEDY BUT TO GO ON: I HAD GOT INTO AN EMPLOYMENT QUITE REMOTE TO MY GENIUS, AND DIRECTLY CONTRARY TO THE LIFE I DELIGHTED IN, AND FOR WHICH I FORSOOK MY FATHER’S HOUSE, AND BROKE THROUGH ALL HIS GOOD ADVICE. I BEGAN NOW SERIOUSLY TO REFLECT UPON WHAT I HAD DONE, AND HOW JUSTLY I WAS OVERTAKEN BY THE JUDGMENT OF HEAVEN FOR MY WICKED LEAVING MY FATHER’S HOUSE, AND ABANDONING MY DUTY. I WAS SINCERELY AFFECTED WITH THIS DISCOURSE, AND, INDEED, WHO COULD BE OTHERWISE? AND I RESOLVED NOT TO THINK OF GOING ABROAD ANY MORE, BUT TO SETTLE AT HOME ACCORDING TO MY FATHER’S DESIRE.
