YOU SPLIT THE COINS INTO A GROUP OF NINETY AND A GROUP OF TEN. YOU THEN FLIP ALL OF THE COINS IN THE GROUP OF TEN. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON YOU'LL FIND THAT THERE ARE AN EQUAL NUMBER OF HEADS IN BOTH GROUPS. THIS METHOD WILL ALWAYS WORK. IF IT'S DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND HOW THIS WORKS, LET'S LOOK AT AN EXAMPLE. ASSUME THAT THERE ARE 3 COINS THAT HAVE HEADS IN THE GROUP OF NINETY. SO THE GROUP OF TEN WILL HAVE 7 COINS WITH HEADS AND 3 COINS WITH TAILS. WHEN ALL THE COINS ARE FLIPPED IN THE GROUP OF TEN, THE NUMBER OF COINS WITH HEADS WILL BECOME THREE TAKE 6 BALLS AND SPLIT THEM INTO 2 GROUPS OF 3 BALLS EACH. USE THE SCALE TO WEIGH THE 2 GROUPS. IF ONE OF THE GROUPS IS HEAVIER THAN THE OTHER GROUP, PICK 2 BALLS FROM THE HEAVIER GROUP AND USE THE SCALE TO WEIGH THEM. IF THEY ARE EQUAL IN WEIGHT, THE OTHER BALL IN THAT GROUP IS THE HEAVY ONE. IF BOTH THE GROUPS ARE EQUAL IN WEIGHT, THEN PICK THE REMAINING 2 BALLS AND USE THE SCALE TO DETERMINE THE HEAVIER BALL IF THE MAN HAD COMMITTED SUICIDE, THE WINDOW THAT HE JUMPED FROM SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT OPENED. BUT ALL THE WINDOWS FACING THE DEAD BODY WERE CLOSED. THIS MEANS THAT SOMEONE CLOSED THE WINDOW AFTER THE MAN DIED IF THE PING-PONG BALL ROLLS FLUSH AGAINST THE WALL, THE CAST-IRON BALL CANNOT CRUSH IT. THOSE WHO KNOW GEOMETRY CAN DETERMINE THAT IF THE DIAMETER OF A LARGE BALL IS AT LEAST 5.83 (3+2(SQUARE ROOT OF 2) TIMES AS LARGE AS THE DIAMETER OF A LITTLE BALL, THEN THE LITTLE BALL WILL BE SAFE IF IT HUGS THE WALL. A CAST-IRON BALL THAT IS LARGER THAN A SOCCER BALL IS MORE THAN 4.83 TIMES AS LARGE IN DIAMETER AS A PING-PONG BALL
